Description & Symptoms

The terms dermatitis and eczema are used interchangeably to describe several different types of inflamed and irritated skin. Acute dermatitis usually appears as a red rash, which may be blistered or swollen. When the dermatitis becomes chronic, the skin may become thickened, rough, and darker than the surrounding skin due to prolonged scratching.

Treatment

The afffected area is usually treated using topical corticosteroids, topical immunomodulators, antibiotics (if infection is suspected), or oral antihistamines - either alone or in combinations with one another.
